A forrest of leaves,

There are repetitive motifs, free and paid pattern of hearts, grapes, flowers, leaves that we can search and download at any moment. Here's mine.

Inspired by a guipure lace of leaves, my primary idea was designed something that I could combined like a collage and join each motif later.

I designed a straight leaf resembling the original lace. Then I found that it needed movement, nature is not static, so varied a little the first one to give it a curve shape, imitating a leaf in the plant.

The straight leaf can be tatted in one or two colour threads, one for the rings (leaflets), and one for the chains (stem).

The curved one can be tatted in one colour or variegated thread. I couldn't find a technique for tatting it with 2 colours, one for rings and another for chains, without "braking" the branches.

Legend

R ring, C chain, (DN)RW (do not) reverse work, LJ lock join, + regular join, CR close ring, VSP very small picot, - picot, DS double stitch,  x {...} repeat x times shapes between braces, x (...) repeat x time stitches between parentheses, # comments

For the straight leaf motif you will need:
On_Shuttle_A= 3mt 72cm 9mm or 4yd 0ft 3in
On_Shuttle_B= 0mt 90cm 5mm or 1yd 0ft 0in
#Add 40cm or 1ft 4in of thread to every shuttle

C= 7DS +C 7DS +R CTH #Join to the base of the first ring

[ENDPATTERN]

The curved leaf is moreless the same pattern, but has an uneven number of leaflets. For this variation you will need:

On_Shuttle_A= 3mt 14cm 3mm or 3yd 1ft 4in
On_Shuttle_B= 0mt 44cm 7mm or 0yd 1ft 6in
# One colour or variegated thread.
#Add 40cm or 1ft 4in of thread to every shuttle

R= 7DS VSP 7DS - 4DS VSP 10DS CR RW
C= 7DS VSP 7DS RW

{
   #thread 1 38cm OR 1ft 3in
   #thread 2 13cm 8mm OR 5in
   R= 5DS +R 11DS - 5DS VSP 11DS CR RW
   C= 5DS VSP 4DS RW
}

R= 5DS +R 11DS - 5DS VSP 11DS CR RW
C= 7DS RW

R= 2DS +R 14DS - 14DS VSP 2DS CR DNRW #Top leaflet

#going down
#repeat one more that the first repetition
2 {
   #Thread 1: 46cm 2mm OR 1ft 6in
   #Thread 2: 8mm OR 1/32in

   C= 7DS DNRW
   R= 11DS +R 5DS - 11DS VSP 5DS CR
}

C= 7DS
R= 10DS +R 4DS - 7DS VSP 7DS CR
C= 7DS +R CTH #join to base of the first ring

[ENDPATTERN]

Both leaves are designed as independant motifs. The straight leaf can be versioned as a star of leaves, an edging adding a chaing to jump from one leaf to the next, joining them by the last ring of the previous leaf and the first ring of the next one.

The curved leaf can be converted into a wave as in the first picture.

Those are just few ideas, Hope you like my forrest of leaves.

    I will definitely try the wave-version!
